Be decent. Be comfortable. Don’t look completely homeless.
Basically my checklist in the mornings lately. Right after Cason was born and honestly for months after, I feel like I lost myself in how I was presenting who I was to the world. How do I lose myself within myself? It’s actually not hard. I was no longer finding joy in the things I had before because it was straight survival mode for awhile. Which is COMPLETELY okay and normal for that matter. However, there is something to be said for growing towards getting ready every day and putting your best foot forward. God doesn’t ask for perfection, but He does ask for effort and our best. Some days, my best is mascara, yoga pants, comfy sweatshirt, and slide on shoes. And that’s okay. Once I understood this, once I understood I didn’t have to dress like I was going to my corporate position any more, but that I still could put together outfits and find peace at how I approached life, this is when I started finding joy in the simple.
It helps to have staples that you know are easy to put together or add to an outfit to finish it out and take you to that next level of polished (read: completed/whole NOT fancy). This season has been full of growth for me and I truly believe feeling confident in the way you are presenting who are to the world aids in all the areas of life. Confidence and peace about who you are the inside matters the most, without fail. Taking care of yourself on the outside only aids in this and can bring joy to what can be overwhelmingly mundane some days.
I kept the same mom staple of a t-shirt and yoga pants and changed it up 6 different ways. You don’t have to have an expansive closet, but there are ways to help get the most of your closet. Layers are so easy during this time of year. Check out Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Target, sales, etc. and keep an eye out for items that can be worn multiple ways. For me, that is cardigans, jackets, even button up shirts that can be worn over a shirt or tied around the waste. Also, must have comfy shoes! These two items, functional shoes and a fun jacket/cover, can spice up any outfit. Every one of these items, including the shoes, were bought on sale or at a discount store/online. If I linked one similar, it’s because the one I have is old enough that it’s no longer for sale. You got this friends. Put your best foot forward! Literally and figuratively. We’ve got littles (sometimes still in their lightening McQueen pajamas, lol!) watching and learning.
