It is happening, y’all. We are our new home! EEEEEK! I am beyond excited to be out of “limbo” and to have a new space for us to call home!
The purpose in decorating a home and the layout of a home is not to be focused in the pictures it creates or the things that are put in it. The purpose is for my husband, myself, and our son to have a home base. A place that we always know we can come to and feel safe, that welcomes us with open arms, and reminds us of who we are and who’s we are. It truly contributes to the foundation of our life’s. It doesn’t matter the walls or the actual décor but the message and the feeling you receive and are sending within the walls.
I was reminded in our Wednesday bible study group about speaking our prayers so that satan can hear us and know he is not welcome and remind him who we belong to. We did this in our house before we moved in. Walked in each room, proclaimed God’s goodness over it, let evil know it is not welcome, and invited God’s will to move in it. Purpose. Give your spaces God given purpose.
I am going to focus on each room itself in specific posts, but this one was to give you the forefront and general idea of what I want our home to feel like for each person that enters. Then elaborate specifically on each room later. We are beyond blessed by the shelter a home provides and the opportunity for community it produces. For these reasons, our top priorities for our home were kitchen, entertaining areas, and storage.
How many times have you heard, “the kitchen’s the heart of the home”? I half believe this because you can love on anyone by feeding their bellies, but it has proven itself time and time again, in every home I’ve had, that its more than just about food. Our new kitchen island reminds me of one of my favorite homes growing up. It’s where I spent 8th grade thru when I left for college and the amount of life that was lived around that kitchen island is immeasurable. I can’t wait for the memories that will make around ours and the community that will be built around it.
This word community is repetitively in my head with this house, so I am going to be open to what God has in store in the realm of community within the walls.
Entertaining and hospitality are at the center of every personality test response I’ve ever been given. One, because I am quite simply an extremely social person, and two, I think it’s how I show love to those who enter my life. To have spaces that accommodate that was a must for Shelton and I. This home has an open living area and then a room right off of it that we are using as our every day living area (read: toys and blankets rarely put up). This will allow for a good flow for our people and all our kids. Since these 3 main areas all sit right next to each other they will all have the same “feel”/décor to them, and with all the same purpose. Comfortable community.
I am learning that I am a major fan of designated storage in a home. There are people that can create the storage they need in whatever space they are given (shout out to mom, Bailey, and Erica), but I am NOT one of those people. Learning, but overall, not my thing. Having designated areas for things already in place is the perfect way for me to stay on top of being “organized” and having a peaceful (read: not messy) home. Each closet has shelves, there’s a pantry (we didn’t have on in the last house), mudroom, storage above and under in every room, drawers in the master closet, and cabinets in the garage. If I can’t manage to keep this place organized, Marie Kondo is going to have to work an intervention.
Think of the top three-five things that would aid in joy and peace within your home and make those things happen. Whether you’re looking for a new home or if you re-vamp things in your current, reach it’s potential for your family. This life is be lived making each passing moment count. Because that’s exactly what they are, passing. Each second is building our marriages, our kiddos, and the totality of our life. Make sure it’s building up, forward, and in His name.
Can’t wait to share all the plans for each room with you as they come! Here’s to reaching our God-given potential, peaches!
